JOB SUMMARY:

NORC at the University of Chicago seeks a highly proactive, detail-oriented, and self-motivated communications professional to join its Strategic Communications team as an Internal Communications Manager. The person in this role will serve as the reliable day-to-day lead for internal corporate communications, working closely with the Associate Director to help our team stay on track and thrive. The ideal candidate sees themselves as a problem-solver, relationship-builder, and an eagle eye. They don’t let things slip through the cracks and hold themselves to a high standard, but they care about their coworkers, and this shows up in their work and how they collaborate with others.

DEPARTMENT: Strategic Communications and External Affairs

Strategic Communications and External Affairs supports the entire NORC organization with expertise in corporate communications and creative services, external affairs, internal communications, and select project-level communications.

Inside the Strategic Communications department, the internal communications team strengthens NORC by informing, empowering, and engaging NORC colleagues through communications that invite interaction and encourage human connection. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage daily internal communications workflows, including producing and drafting original content and campaigns, as well as supervising and coordinating team contributions.

  • Oversee project management and team systems for internal communications, becoming the go-to person for analytics and reporting.

  • Partner with the Associate Director to develop and refine the overall strategy for internal communications, channels, audience development, and stakeholder relationships.

  • Draft internal communications at an emerging expert level, demonstrating strong writing and editing skills, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with senior researchers, directors, and other stakeholders.

  • Produce weekly staff newsletter and bi-weekly senior manager newsletter, ensuring quality and completeness.

  • Manage and mentor the communications assistant (whose work includes digital signage, internal events, media hits entries, and answering the general communications team inbox), driving improvements, accountability, and troubleshooting issues as needed.

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of experience in communications, with a proven track record of success.

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft clear, concise, and engaging content for various internal audiences and channels.

  • Strong project management skills and a keen eye for detail, ensuring that all tasks and projects are completed accurately and on time.

  • Proactive problem-solving approach, with the ability to anticipate and address potential issues before they arise.

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, while also collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

  • Experience with intranet platforms, content management systems, and other communication tools, and a track record of quickly learning and adapting to new technologies.

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to gather and interpret data to measure the effectiveness of communication initiatives.

  • Unwavering reliability and commitment to driving results in a dynamic and evolving organization.

  • Excellent references from prior supervisors, attesting to the candidate's reliability, attention to detail, and proactive approach.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS:

    The pay range for this position is $96,000– $144,000.

    This position is classified as regular. Regular staff are eligible for NORC’s comprehensive benefits program. Benefits include, but are not limited to:
